Spring Is The Time For Low Voltage Lighting

Posted on March 3, 2018

With Spring just around the corner, it’s usually time for the “Honey-Do” list to start making its way from pipe dream, to being set in stone. A lot of the time, we have the privilege of helping families with their springtime landscaping projects, and we really enjoy transforming a home’s landscaping into something truly beautiful. A lot of the common questions we hear around this time of year centers around outdoor lighting. We really enjoy talking with people about this, because it allows us to not only consult with new customers, but we get the opportunity to educate people with the different options as well.

Let’s take a moment to really understand the benefits of a specific type of outdoor lighting, low-voltage lighting. Once you understand the benefits, we know you’ll see its major upside to your home.

Low-voltage lighting is a type of outdoor lighting that uses energy-efficient lights that run on 30 volts or less. Because of the low voltage used – low voltage lighting typically uses just 20% of the energy as incandescent bulbs - these lights tend to last longer than regular bulbs. As for savings, you guessed it, low-voltage lighting can help you save on your energy bills. Don’t mistake low energy lighting with low brightness though. Low voltage lighting still provides excellent illumination, when compared with other lighting options. Putting low voltage lighting around your landscaping will give beautiful evening accents to your trees and bushes. Just because the warmer months usually mean less sunlight, doesn’t mean you can’t showcase your trees and shrubs all day and all night.

Low voltage lighting also can serve a security purpose as well. Generally speaking, the well-lit home at night is less likely for break-ins than one that is not. When your home is secure, you have that peace of mind that you and your family is safe, helping you sleep better at night. At the end of the day, your home is important to keep safe, but your family wellbeing can never be replaced.

Finally, when you invest in low-voltage lighting around your home, you add value to the home. Obviously, the safety and security of having a well-lit home is appealing, but the overall aesthetic of the home and curb-appeal will make your home much more desirable, should you ever decide to sell. The clean lines and accents is sure to make your home the envy of everyone on your block!
